Orange Jordan hosts “Seedstars Amman” competition at BIG
15 Aug 2016
In light of the strategic partnership between Orange Group and Seedstars World – a global seed-stage startup competition -- Orange Jordan recently hosted the Seedstars Amman annual pitching competition. The event was held at Orange’s BIG (Business Innovation Growth) building at the King Hussein Business Park and saw the participation of 11 of the most successful local startups in the Kingdom. By hosting Seedstars Amman, which aims to both support and cultivate entrepreneurial potential through identifying the best startups in 56 different countries, including those in the Middle East, and allowing them to pitch their ideas at a higher level to key decision makers and investors in the industry, Orange Jordan provided participants with the opportunity to showcase their entrepreneurial projects in front of a judging panel comprised of prominent businessmen and women. At the pitching competition, the founders of each startup explained their respective businesses, aiming to receive investment and development opportunities by connecting with potential investors, partners, and customers. During the closing ceremony of the competition, three winners were crowned and honored with the title of “Seedstars Amman.” Coming in first place was Mind Rockets Inc., named the best emerging startup in Jordan of 2016. The Audiogram came in second place, and Arabot received third. Placements were decided based on the comments of the judging panel which consisted of the Ambassador of Seedstars to Jordan, Majd Afghani; Senior Associate at Seedstars World, Tiffany Obser; Managing Partner of Silicon Badia, Emile Cubeisy; Associate at DASH Ventures, Mohamed Malik; and CSR and CER Manager at Orange Jordan, Orayb Akeel. As the first place winner, Mind Rockets Inc. will get the opportunity to participate in regional and global Seedstars summits, which hold a number of training workshops and investment sessions, and serve as catalytic platforms for the participating high-growth emerging-market startups. These next-level participants will then have the chance to compete with winning startups from other countries in front of a global judging panel, and will contend for the title of “Best Global Startup in the World,” striving to attract large-scale investments in their company operations.Orange Jordan’s hosting of the local edition of this international competition came due to its continuous commitment to stimulate emerging startups and entrepreneurship, especially when related to the telecommunications and information technology sectors. Additionally, support of Seedstars Amman falls directly in line with the objectives of its own growth-mode startup accelerator program, BIG, and with its five-year corporate strategy, Essentials 2020, which focuses on supporting and developing enterprise customers in a professional and structured way, allowing them to take advantage of the company’s diverse resources, one of the most prominent of these being Orange’s application program interface (API). Through its variety of APIs, Orange Jordan is committed to providing entrepreneurs with extra services that benefit them in developing new solutions and services that are harmonious with local and regional markets, and that directly serve the needs of users.Launched in May 2015, BIG targets startups that need guidance, support, and the right business environment to grow their companies. The program also focuses on developing many important business aspects such investment needs, product improvement, and customer development, among others.-END-
