Telecom companies harness their resources to support higher education

5 Apr 2020
Since the government announced a set of precautionary procedures to combat the spread of coronavirus, the Kingdom's three telecom companies (Zain, Orange and Umniah) hastened to support these measures by adopting social initiatives that encourage citizens to stay home for their health and safety.Telecom companies contributed to the success of the official decision of transforming from traditional education to e-learning in universities and schools by offering alternatives that help them fulfill the requirements of their courses remotely. The three telecom companies have launched affordable internet bundles, tailored for Jordanian university students for online learning purposes.             The offers can be easily requested by filling e-forms that are available on each university's website. Telecom operators take into consideration that the current situation requires staying at home, which is increasing students' internet usage to access course work and material.  As part of the companies' social responsibility towards these students, the whole community and education, due to its role in developing the future generation, they have offered free browsing of "Darsak" e-learning platform, launched by the Ministry of Education in cooperation with the Ministry of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship, to users across the Kingdom.  Students and parents can access educational materials, courses and curricula without any deduction from their home or mobile internet bundles. The significant role of telecom industry is stemmed from its national contributions. Citizens are relying on digital and online solutions to fulfill their daily tasks and communicate during the lockdown. Therefore, a huge responsibility falls on the shoulders of telecom operators, requiring them to take preemptive steps to guarantee high-quality internet and avoid traffic on networks to encounter the massive increase in internet usage and maintain service continuity in all governorates, such as special technical teams and network enhancements.  The Telecommunications Regulatory Commission backed these efforts by granting telecom companies additional frequencies to expand network capacity as required at this time.  -END-
