Orange Jordan sponsors COVID-19 edition of “Women in History” forum

7 Dec 2020
Orange Jordan sponsored the "Women in History" forum for the fifth consecutive year, focusing on women's role in the COVID-19 pandemic, under the patronage of the Canadian Ambassador to Jordan, H.E. Ms. Donica Pottie, and in cooperation with the Embassy of Canada in Amman. The forum, held this year in November and December via social media platforms in line with the preventive measures taken to combat the spread of COVID-19, is an annual event that highlights the active contribution of women in development across all sectors.  During the forum, 20 videos were published on social media pages featuring key speakers including: politicians, businesswomen, and frontline COVID-19 workers who talked about their work experience in the crisis. Aiming to help cope with the pandemic, the forum also featured 4 virtual workshops via ZOOM discussing social media essentials, held for ten women whose work or business was affected by the crisis.  In addition to sponsoring the event, Orange Jordan provided all the digital and telecom needs of the forum, especially as it comes in unprecedented circumstances requiring preventive measures to combat the virus.  Ambassador Pottie said: "I am glad to patron the COVID-19 edition of the Women in History, as many senior Canadian female public health officials have led the country's health response to the pandemic, and while the leadership of Jordanian women remains well known, they have contributed in a myriad of different ways to the fight against the virus, hence the importance of recognizing and celebrating those contributions." Artistic Director and Founder of Women in History Jordan Canada, Ms. Ghada Saba, expressed excitement at launching this edition that highlights the role of women during the pandemic and honors the courageous efforts of frontline women in both Jordan and Canada.  Orange Jordan's PR, CSR, and Corporate Communication Director, Eng. Rana Dababneh also participated in the forum on behalf of the company. Dababneh said that Orange Jordan is keen to support the Women in History forum, an important event that sheds light on women success stories in various sectors, noting that dedicating this year's edition to COVID-19 will help honor women who are playing an essential role in combating the health, economic, and social impacts of the crisis, which falls in line with the company's support and empowerment of women. "Orange Jordan continues to adopt initiatives that support women's contribution, which is key to socioeconomic development. This comes as part of the company's social responsibility that focuses on empowering women through comprehensive programs, most notably the Women Digital Center program executed in partnership with the Jordanian Hashemite Fund for Human Development (JOHUD) to provide them with necessary and digital skills to start their projects," she added. -END-
